Shannon & Ted’s Wedding at Wilson’s Ciderhouse in Iowa City, Iowa

Ready Player One

When Shannon met Ted at work they had an instant connection. Over three years of friendship, they began to bond over their love of gaming. After one invitation to game together at Ted’s house, Shannon texted her friends that she had found her soulmate. They both knew they were destined to be together.

Shannon is a lover of all things Disney, so Ted knew it would be the perfect place to ask his princess to marry him. On a family vacation to Disney World in 2017, Shannon raced ahead of her parents and Ted, giving him the perfect opportunity to set up the ask. When they arrived at the statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse, Ted got down on one knee and asked Shannon to marry him! She said yes!

The Perfect Fit

Almost as soon as they returned from their Disney vacation, Shannon reached out to us to begin planning her dream wedding. It would be a wedding fit for a princess, and being that we are big Disney fans ourselves it was a fun opportunity! For nearly two years, Emily worked with Shannon, her mom Beth, and Ted to design and plan a whimsically unique evening at Wilson’s Ciderhouse. We crafted the day so it had Disney touches, but wasn’t over the top either! It had to fit the venue + be incredibly elegant and beautiful at the same time. This wasn’t a birthday party!

With the Experience Package, Emily was able to work with Shannon and Ted’s vendors to create truly one-of-a-kind pieces for their wedding. A custom cake table, brought to life by Unique Events and Tip Top Cakes, and a storybook backdrop, built by Shannon’s dad and painted by the groom himself, set the tone for their Disney-themed celebration.

Disney in the Details

Shannon’s bridesmaids wore custom organza dresses in violet created by Emily Hart Bridal paired with eucalyptus crowns, while Ted’s groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos and bow ties from Men’s Warehouse. An abundance of gorgeous floral arrangements in mauve and violet with plenty of greenery adorned the ceremony arch – then repurposed on the welcome table, princess lounge, and bar. Of course, Shannon and Ted made sure to incorporate the most magical place on earth into their big day. A Cinderella’s Carriage floral arrangement on the welcome table, a quote by Walt Disney welcomed guests to the outdoor ceremony, guest table names were inspired by notable Disney movie landmarks, and the couple even wore custom painted shoes!

We couldn’t have been happier with how their wedding came together. It was truly the most magical weekend that they could have dreamed, and we were so honored to be a part of it. Best wishes to the happy couple in your new (magical) life together!
