Sarah & Joe’s Backyard Wedding in North Liberty, Iowa

It Started With Hello

Joe spotted Sarah one night at a bar in Chicago. They spent the next hour or two talking, he got her number, and the sparks flew! As they started to see each other more, there was a slow happy realization that they had something special. Then one day, while kayaking out on Lake McBride, they talked about planning a future together and knew they had both found the one.

Ending Quarantine With An Engagement

The two of them had been quarantining pretty hard due to COVID in Chicago, but decided to go out to a nice (outdoor) dinner for their five-year anniversary. Joe made a reservation at North Pond, a cute small bistro in the park. Sarah had a crazy work day, so she didn’t even notice when Joe left the apartment to get the ring that morning. After they dressed up and arrived at the restaurant, another couple got engaged nearby right as they sat down for dinner. Sarah thought it was cute, but noticed Joe didn’t seem happy about it. After a great meal, they walked over toward the pond to admire the sunset– that’s when Joe popped the question! Joe had a few friends hiding in the bushes nearby who snapped a few photos and had some bottles of champagne for them to celebrate with afterwards.

A Perfect Backyard Wedding

Joe and Sarah booked The Assistant Package, which includes partial event design and planning for their big day. Sarah’s parent’s beautiful open backyard was perfect for the elegant casual atmosphere they wanted for their wedding. Their wedding was romantic, intimate, personal and full of lots of laughter.
