Morgan & Chase’s Wedding at Epic Event Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

How did they meet?

Morgan and Chase met… well, who knows? It is a topic no one can figure out! Everyone agrees that it was inevitable though for the couple to meet eventually. The bride & groom had a ton of mutual friends and family. The stories are everything from her best friend going to high school with Chase and she introduced them. Morgan’s parents went to college with Chase’s uncle, so it’s possible that somehow they met through that connection. Morgan & Chase’s mutual love of tailgating and downtown Iowa City led to many opportunities for them to connect. A “chance” encounter was definitely orchestrated by their mothers who had hatched a plan to put the two at Dublins in Cedar Rapids, and from there the couple hit it off.

They began talking on the phone, and as fate would have it, a few days later, Morgan was already planning to come down to Iowa City for a New Years Eve party at Chase’s apartment with mutual friends. They talked everyday from there and after a few months, Morgan finally broke down and agreed to go on a date with Chase!

Getting Engaged

Morgan and Chase got engaged in November of 2018. Under the guise of a work party they went to 350 First, a restaurant atop the Doubletree hotel, overlooking Cedar Rapids. Despite Chase’s nervous behavior throughout the day, Morgan was extremely surprised when Chase got down on one knee. He thought of everything, as he even had a photographer hiding behind the bar taking pictures! Afterwards they headed to a celebration dinner, where Chase had one final surprise, their family and friends waiting to share in their excitement and joy.

The Industrial & Modern Design

Morgan and her mom, Kathy, hired Soirée for The Experience package, full planning & design, and we were so excited to help with this amazing event! Morgan wanted an industrial styled event with lots of pops of vintage touches and mixed metals. Kathy also wanted us to mention how we were great at keeping them on track and making their vision a reality. (Aw, thanks! It was so fun working with you and Morgan!!!)

All the details

The wedding day began with an extensive set up at Epic Event Center, complete with replacing all of the venue’s chairs with a metal bistro and using gorgeous wedgewood blue linens on all of the tables. Special attention was paid to the dessert area where we rented buffet tables from Borrow My Vintage and a blue rug to create a memorable space for the pretty mini-desserts. Even the cake table in the middle of the light up dance floor was used with a gorgeous copper linen. A mixture of large and small Edison light bulbs hung from a twenty-foot long custom fixture covered in lush greenery.

Six Wedding Dresses!

Our favorite part of the wedding design was Morgan’s idea. She was able to procure her and his grandmothers’ and mothers’ wedding dresses. We created a vignette of the dresses placed on mannequins (thanks again, Jocelyn Taylor!) surrounding a fireplace mantle adorned with candles and topped with the original wedding photos. This dress area was a showstopper and guests couldn’t stop talking about it all night! We couldn’t have been happier how the design came to life and how each part of the room had been designed to share the love Morgan & Chase have for one another with all of their guests.
