Melissa & Spencer’s Wedding at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Can’t Get You Off My Mind

Melissa met Spencer at a Cedar Rapids social event in 2008. Their lives would go in separate directions over the next eight years as Melissa established her beauty career in California doing the makeup for many tv shows, movies, and A-list celebrities. Despite the distance, the two remained great friends. After a visit back to Iowa, talking about life and the future with Spencer, she knew he was the one. Melissa decided to move back to Iowa to start a life with Spencer. In 2017, they welcomed son, Calvin, and have loved building their life together. Spencer owns a number of Jimmy Johns franchises and Melissa has continued her very successful makeup career! (She works with us frequently on weddings – we highly recommend her if you are looking for a makeup artist for your big day!) When they aren’t working, the busy family loves spending time together, playing at the park, and barbecuing.

A Fairytale Engagement

What a dream would this be?! Spencer proposed to Melissa on a family trip to Disney World! As they were posing for a photo in front of Cinderella’s Castle alongside Calvin, he dropped down to one knee and popped the question. “Will you marry me?” Melissa couldn’t help but say YES! She says it was the most magical moment of their lives.

The Gorgeous Design

Melissa and Spencer are members at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, so it was only natural to choose this location for their ceremony & reception. The team at ECC is amazing, and we loved working with them to design the perfect vision of Melissa’s fairytale day. We worked closely with her and her mom to keep the entire wedding within a comfortable budget while prioritizing design elements to make it the stunning event it turned out to be! Sequin rose gold linens, gold accents, and ivory florals rounded out their color palette. We loved using specialty lighting to accent the big design elements such as uplighting and pin spots. We also were so excited for the custom blush dance floor wrap! The flowers for this wedding were amazing too, crafted by Unique Events. They were lush and exactly what Melissa had always wanted. Blush and lilac outfitted the bridesmaids, sistermaids, and the maids of honor, while the groom stood out from his groomsmen in a darker gray suit. We absolutely loved the socks that all the groomsmen wore, which bore Spencer’s face! So fun!

Unique Touches Make All the Difference

Some of the really unique and fun things that we designed was the extra special wedding cake that was a modern take of her mother and father’s wedding cake from 1983. Complete with the colored light fountain, bridges, and satellite cakes, Melissa was able to make a huge statement in her wedding design and honor her parent’s successful marriage of 35 years!

We also were able to hire a carriage pulled by stately horses only days prior to the wedding. It truly was a twist of fate that we were able to find and book the horse company because they had had a cancellation only hours prior to Melissa’s initial call. After some additional coordination from Soirée, we were able to have Melissa and her dad arrive at the ceremony in a gorgeous white carriage for the most amazing bridal arrival ever! After the ceremony was over, Spencer, Melissa, and Calvin took a ride around in the carriage for some quiet family time! How sweet!

We will really miss working on this wedding now that it’s complete! It was a delight to get to know Melissa & Spencer and their families. Congratulations to the happy couple! We wish you nothing but happy years ahead. <3
