Melissa & Matt’s Wedding at the IMU in Iowa City, Iowa

A College Love Story

Melissa and Matt are the perfect example of “college sweethearts.” Even though Matt is pretty sure they met at the bar, they actually met while at their University library while both studying with friends. Matt swept Melissa off her feet with his wide variety of computer stickers, his long hair, and his impressive procrastination skills that he showed off by waiting to write a biology report until the night before. They soon realized that they had several friends in common, and before they knew it, they were running into each other at parties with their friends. They even figured out they had been in the same Organic Chemistry class. Melissa was always in the front of the room, while Matt was sitting in the back. It was a love story just waiting to happen. After being friends for several months, Melissa found herself lost at a football game and of course, Matt came in to rescue her. This lead to them starting to date and on Melissa’s 21st birthday, they solidified their relationship by becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. A gift that Melissa didn’t know at the time would turn into a forever love.

The Big Plan

Melissa and Matt knew that they were going to get married, it was all just a matter of when. They needed the engagement first! Melissa was doing an internship for 5 months in New York. Little did she know, Matt had asked her parents for their permission during the Christmas before and from there, he started his big plan. Matt was flying out from Arizona once a month to visit Melissa in New York. Melissa was sure he would pop the question while he was visiting for Valentine’s Day. However, after a beautiful weekend in the city, the question wasn’t asked. After the third trip to New York with no proposal, Melissa was pretty sure it just wasn’t going to happen for a while. Finally, on the fifth trip, after a walk on the trails that lead them to the perfect cove, Matt got down on one knee and asked Melissa the big question, and she said ‘Yes!’

From there, the wedding planning began. Melissa and Matt had all of their vendors selected when they came to Soiree. They were looking for someone to provide them with day-of coordination which made The Essentials package perfect for them!

Melissa and Matt’s Big Day

Thanks to all of the wonderful vendors the couple had selected, the day was perfect! All of the details that Melissa and Matt had included made for a wonderful day. A gorgeous wood frame from Borrow My Vintage used at the altar, lush flower petals as a token of well wishes, and a stunning venue at the Iowa Memorial Union as well as much more, all created an amazing day for the new Mr. and Mrs. Rier.
