Kelly & Jake’s Wedding at the Millwork Ballroom in Dubuque, Iowa
Falling in Love!
Jake and Kelly met in October of 2014. At the time, she was living in Denver and happened to be back home in Dubuque to celebrate the wedding of her friend. Jake was in school working towards his Ph.D. at the University of Houston in Texas and decided to come home to surprise his parents for their 30th wedding anniversary. Jake and Kelly met at a bar and two weeks later Jake was in Denver visiting Kelly. They spent the next two years undertaking the never ever easy task of dating long distance. In 2016, Kelly made the big move to Houston for good.
Jake proposed on September, 29th 2018, on the 50-yard line of Kinnick Stadium, one of Kelly’s most favorite places, as with any University of Iowa alumni. Surrounded by their family and friends (and Herky), Kelly said “yes!”
Full Planning & Design Services
Knowing how difficult a wedding could be to plan, not to mention, they were going to be planning their Dubuque nuptials all the way from Texas, it was only natural for Kelly & Jake to reach out to us for our helpful services. They chose The Experience package with Soirée and worked closely with Emily to create their wedding dreams a reality. Kelly had booked the Millwork for an October 2019 wedding, and we loved her ideas of a creepy, elegant, fall-wonderland. With the idea of a Sleepy Hollow theme (but not Halloween-like at all), black, emerald, and gold were natural choices for colors! We made sure the entire design was approachable, comfortable, and creepy yet still very classy. It was evident that we did our jobs well when all Kelly & Jake’s guests received their invitations and they were all ‘Yes’ RSVPs! Usually, you can count on about 75% of those invited will come, so we couldn’t believe that hardly anyone they invited said no!
We are so passionate about connecting our Soirée couples with professional & trusted vendors to execute all our plans. Erin with Unique Events ran with our ideas and made some wonderful recommendations on some of the things they could put together. Certain elements like furniture, linens, and rentals brought this elegant design to life. Glen knocked it out of the park with these flowers – seriously stunning! Allegra Iowa City created the most beautiful invitations and paper signs for the wedding day. We couldn’t do these gorgeous weddings without any of these amazing people below!
