Katy & Chris’ Gorgeous Fall Wedding In Her Parent’s Backyard
Kicking Off Planning with Some Assistance
The theme of weddings in 2020 seems to be all about change.Planning a wedding is hard. Planning a wedding during a pandemic from across the country is even harder. Katy and Chris live in Seattle, Washington but were planning their wedding venue to be in Iowa City. The two had booked the beautiful Wilson’s Ciderhouse and wedding planning was in full swing from all the way over on the West coast. Katy and her mom started planning out the new details of the wedding with assistance from us, which means the Assistant Package was the right fit for them! It was our honor to jump right in and support all of their efforts!
Change of Plans
Much like many other couples, plans had to change due to the pandemic. It felt right to the couple to change their large scale event into something smaller. The new idea? An intimate wedding at Katy’s parents’ home in North Liberty. The thought of having such a special event at her parents’ home made Katy a bit worried. She didn’t want it to be too much to ask of them. This was their home, not a wedding venue! Her parents were more than willing to host (they’ve hosted amazing gatherings in the past, this was no crazy task for them)! Let’s just say… we are so glad they did. The home was beautiful and warm, the land was the perfect size, and the views were to die for. Seriously, it felt like we weren’t even in Iowa!
Katy and Chris had started with a guest list of about 150 and scaled down to less than 25. They had the definition of an intimate wedding! Their absolute closest family and friends were in attendance and had traveled from all over the country to be there to celebrate them. Some even traveled by RV and camped out in the driveway for the wedding weekend! Katy and Chris were truly surrounded by so much love on their wedding day.
The Outdoor Wedding of their Dreams
The Sunday morning of the wedding was a chilly, overcast, textbook definition of a Fall day. It had been pretty breezy during the week and trees had started shedding their leaves. Although it was a bit cold, the weather actually fit the feel of the day perfectly. The sun came out in the afternoon, the winds had calmed down, and it was a crisp day that felt warmer than it was because of all of the joy and love that filled the air.
With both the ceremony and reception being set to be outside and temperatures ranging from the upper 30s to low 40s, Katy & Chris were determined to make the most of it by bringing heaters and the fluffiest blankets you can imagine. Despite the chilly temperatures, the vibe of the entire day was as cozy as could be. The ceremony was such a dream, with incredible views looking out over the water. It was not too long and not too short, followed by a champagne toast for all. Everyone made their way back up to the house for cocktail hour and dinner followed by a fun evening enjoying each other’s company over delicious signature cocktails and wine.
We honestly don’t know what else we can say about their wedding day, it was just so perfect for them that there simply aren’t words to do it justice. It was that good! We are so beyond happy for Katy and Chris – congratulations on your incredible wedding day and cheers to continuing a life full of love and happiness!
