Julia & Kyle’s Wedding at Bella Sala in Tiffin, Iowa

Medicine Creates Love

Julia and Kyle are so sweet together! He looks at her with so much affection and with the cute way she looks back at him – you can feel their electric love for one another. You have to hear how it all started.

He was in his medical residency, and she was a registered nurse in the MICU. They met while working with the same patient and she thought he was cute, so naturally she gave him a hard time when he was having trouble obtaining a form. He sat around for an hour trying to talk to her while waiting for their patient’s family member. After that short time, she left such a great impression that Kyle later found Julia on Facebook and asked her on their first date.

Always for each other

Julia and Kyle supported each other throughout his medical residency, their graduate schools, her multiple degrees and most recently, her DNP (👏 ). They always talked about getting married and knew it would be happening after he completed all of his training to become an orthopedic surgeon, which was not a small task! They were together for six years prior to getting engaged. Julia tells us the sweet and intimate story below:

“Kyle, proposed on a typical Saturday morning. We woke up, I went to the gym, I got back and we cooked breakfast. Nothing was out of the ordinary. We started to clean up when he came around the corner, gave me a kiss, told me how much he enjoyed our weekends together, and that he wanted to ensure that he had weekends like that for the rest of his life. He pulled out the ring and asked me to have more weekends together. It was simple, perfect, and very much us.” How sweet is that?!

The Everything Package

Julia and Kyle have very busy careers and knew that they wanted to hire a professional to help them plan their wedding day. They needed someone to help them plan, organize, and stay on track for a wedding in the following year, so they hired us in April of 2019 for their August 2020 wedding. We loved all of her ideas and immediately got started on a wedding design for the ceremony and reception. It was going to be comfortable, classic, and sophisticated with mauve, burgundy, and white for the colors. Romantic greenery was to be incorporated throughout with luscious textures brought in via the decor. Even the invitations and all our plans for day-of stationery were perfectly matched for their exquisite event.

Part way through the planning process, Julia asked if we would plan her bridal shower! They had booked The Everything Package with us which includes two extra event planning & designs, so of course we said yes! We worked with some amazing local vendors to do an outdoor, tented, backyard bridal shower that was beautiful and so intimate.

Pandemic Changes

As with all 2020 weddings, we had to make adjustments for the pandemic. We went back and forth for weeks wondering if it was responsible to send out invitations for the August date. Ultimately, it made them feel much more comfortable to postpone. Being in the medical fields and no vaccines available at the time, they made the difficult decision to send notices to all the guests saying they will move the big day to January 2021.

At that time, no one knew COVID would be still in full swing on their new date. So when November & December of 2020 rolled around, they were heartbroken to have us send out un-invites and change their event to a micro wedding.  We changed venues to suit their new goals and made the most out of the situation. We created a beautiful cocktail hour space and reception area by draping the Bella Sala large room creating two separate areas. Intimate tables kept guests socially distanced and everything was covered in floral. Their wedding with 29 guests was one of the most fun, beautiful, and energetic weddings we have done in years!

The Best Day

Their group of 29 people loved to party and it was an epic celebration of Julia & Kyles nuptials! They had six bridesmaids, six groomsmen, parents, siblings, and dates only invited. We didn’t spare any part of the experience just because it was an intimate affair. We certainly still hit their goals of having a comfortable & classic event while making the evening elegant. Congratulations, Julia & Kyle!
