A Joyful Wedding Full of Love at Hancher in Iowa City

A love so cheesy

Jake and Michael met during their sophomore year at the University of Iowa. While Jake was working at Marco’s Grilled Cheese stand one night, he met Michael. At this time, Jake and Michael were dating other people. Fast forward to a year later, Jake returned from a year aboard, he ran into Michael in Iowa City, and Jake asked Michael out for lunch. Their first date was at Atlas, now known as St. Burch Tavern. They began dating in December of their senior year.

Jake and Michael have been together for nearly 13 years, living in Iowa City, Washington DC, and now in San Francisco, CA. In the spring of 2020, they adopted their dog, Bella.

IYKYK (If You Know You Know)

Awesomely, Jake and Michael didn’t have a formal proposal which we love! They knew they wanted to get married, so it was not even a question. Everything felt right, and they decided to move forward with wedding plans.

They traveled back to Iowa City for work and looked at wedding venues during the trip. They decided on Hancher Auditorium for the ceremony & reception, which is one of our favorite locations. Since Jake and Michael were living in San Francisco with busy careers, they searched for local support in their wedding planning & coordinating. They chose our Essentials Package because it fit their needs for their June 2020 wedding.

2020 Changed Everything, and 2021 Changed Everything too!

Due to the pandemic, their June 2020 wedding was postponed to August 2021. Early into 2021, the pandemic still wasn’t at a point where it felt like they could have the wedding of their dreams, so they postponed it again to August 6th, 2022. The couple also upgraded to The Assistant Package, which was the perfect fit after many date changes and wedding plans. It wasn’t easy for Jake & Michael to postpone so many times, but they were troopers through the trials. It was our honor to add more support to dedicate to helping them create a joyful weekend that they’ll remember forever.

It was a beautiful day to remember, and we are grateful we were chosen to be a part of it! Congratulations to Michael & Jake from all of us at Soirée!
